Young Adult oh my!

I love reading, if that wasn’t obvious, and this year some of my favorite authors are coming out with new books or even wrapping up a series.

Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instuments series will come to a dramatic conclusion in City of Heavenly Fire, due May 27th 2014. This young adult paranormal series follows Shadowhunters Clary, Jace, Alec and Isabelle with a cast of characters that you will fall for- hello Simon and Magnus, into the a world filled with demons and bad fathers. If you haven’t given this series a try, DO! the first book, City of Bones was made into a movie this year, but definitely read the books before muddling through the movie.

Kiera Cass ends her Selection trilogy with The One, due May 6th, 2014. The Selection is a young adult dystopian novel with one of the strongest and most versatile female leads in young adult literature. America is selected to participate in The Selection, a Bachelor-esque way Prince Maxon will find his wife and future Queen. In the second book The Elite, she must decide between a love she thought she trusted and a friendship that is turning into much more. I am SO excited to see where Kiera takes America in The One.

One of the most mature Young Adult series I’ve LOVED is Wendy Higgins Sweet Trilogy. I was able to read an advanced copy of her last book, Sweet Reckoning was beyond SUPERB! I am not exaggerating- Wendy is AWESOME! The Sweet books are about Anna, who finds out she is a little more than human. It is a rather grownup young adult book with mature themes. I can’t say enough about it though! Give it a try- you won’t be disappointed- oh and bonus- they are all straight to paperback books. Sweet Reckoning is due April 29th, 2014.

The Testing Trilogy will end on June 17th, 2014 with Graduation Day. Fans of the Hunger Games and Divergent will love Joelle Charbonneau’s trilogy about a young girl named Cia who is chosen to participate in the Testing, a series of tests to find the best of the best in the nation, who will be given seats at the University. Cia is a dynamic, loveable character who believes in family values, friendship, loyalty and doing what’s right, just like her parents taught her. This series is one of the smartest series I have ever read and I highly suggest it to everyone!

The second book in the Unhinged series is out. AG Howard explores Wonderland and the Alice curse as only a true fan of Carroll could.  Alyssa’s great great, you get the point grandmother was THE ALICE and all the woman since her have been plagued with the Alice curse, odd visitors, vivid hallucinations- most were hospitalized or took their own lives from the insanity, but not Alyssa. When the bugs start talking to her and her dreams host an odd man who keeps trying to lead her to a rabbit hole, Alyssa faces it head on. Splintered was phenomenal and Unhinged was a great follow up. I am intrigued and can’t wait to see where she goes from here. If you are a lover of all things Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland, and Tim Burton’s dark interpretations then this series is for you!

Eve Marie Mont’s Unbound series is one of my favorites and I will be sad to see it end March 25th, 2014. Emma has fallen through the pages of Jane Eyre and made the decision to return to Grey in the first book, Breath of Eyre. She saw inside Hester Prynne’s mind in Touch of Scarlet and now she travels to France and gets an up-close look in the Phantom of the Opera in The Phantom Enchantment. Emma is a dynamic character who has faced more in her young life than most do in their entire life. And Grey, well he’s awesome! I am sorry to see it end but I can’t wait to read it!

More to come soon! Happy Reading all!
