The Book in the Renaissance (Yale)
What better thing to talk about here than books! The history and evolution of the modern book isn’t short, but where it really begins to look like what we have today is in the Renaissance with Gutenberg’s printing press. This is a topic I’m completely fascinated by, and in even skimming this book I’ve already learned things I didn’t know! One thing I hadn’t thought about that makes so much sense it’s obvious that printers must have thought about is the art. Printers actually carved the art into blocks for printing, just like they had blocks for the text. This was used for books, but also for flyers that would be posted for the public to read about current news.
I want this book, and I want to spend a few days reading it – thoroughly!
