Kurt Vonnegut: Letters

Kurt Vonnegut: Letters (Delacorte Press)

I’ve always been a fan of the letters of famous folks. Oh no, not because I’m a nosy (well, maybe a tiny bit). But I love to see the way authors think and write outside of their chosen fields. I think it started for me when I was reading the diaries of Samuel Pepys back in junior high. That insider’s look at a writer’s mind and life fascinates me. Here’s Vonnegut’s letters to family and associates to add more depth to our knowledge of him. Vonnegut’s connection to the Capital Region here (Schenectady, Troy and Albany) makes for interesting reading for locals. But Vonnegut’s appeal is certainly far wider than our local concerns. His writings have reached out to all ages and continues to be popular with local college students.
