So I don’t know about you, but I am reading a dozen or more series right now. And I am the girl who re-reads the series before the next book comes out- yes that means I read all the Harry Potter books over 10 times each! I must know where the last book left off if I am ever to know what’s going on in the new book, right?!
The month of May was big for Cassandra Clare and her series, The Mortal Instruments. The City of Lost Souls was released and gave readers exactly what they’ve been craving- a Clary/Jace centric story- and she left off on quite the cliffhanger. She also announced that Clockwork Princess, of the Infernal Devices series will be released in 2013! That is a book I can not wait to read!!! In this humble girl’s opinion- it’s the better of the two series. Clockwork Prince just as good, if not better than the first book in the series, Clockwork Angel.
Also released this month is the second book of Meg Cabot’s Abandon series. In book 1, Abandon, Pierce is “stalked” by John, a keeper of death in this modern Persephone tale. Underworld picks up right where Abandon left off. Pierce can be a difficult character to root for sometimes, but overall the plot was creative and engaging. I also love stories that give a modern twist to mythology.
Were you a fan of the love story in Twilight, but are over the whole vampire thing?! Well then I have the new series for you. Amy Plums “Revenant” series has all the love and the supernatural you could want, but Kate is a strong vital lead role who is loveable and endearing. Die for Me begins as Kate and her sister Georgia moving to Paris after the death of their parents. Kate is depressed and can’t seem to move past her pain until she meets Vincent. But, alas, Vincent is not all that he seems. The second book, Until I Die was just released and I loved it!
One of my favorite new series is written by a relatively unknown author, Josephine Angelini. The first book, Starcrossed was just released in paperback and the second book, Dreamless is due in June. Starcrossed is a modern twist on the Helen of Troy tale but SO MUCH BETTER!!! There’s an amazing love story and a twisting, turning plot line that will keep you guessing. The second book matches the pace of the first and is definitely a must read!!!
This June we can finally have the answer to what happens to Luce and Daniel as Lauren Kate’s Fallen series comes to a close. This series has been up and down and gone back in time to the Fall. Now the question is- Can Luce and Daniel’s love really change the outcome of the upcoming battle with Lucifer?! Gosh, I am hoping so. After 3 novels and a novella, I am ready for Luce and Daniel to finally have some happiness.
Embrace by Jessica Shirvington was a great first book in the Violet Eden series. Violet Eden was just like any normal girl until her 17th birthday. That’s when weird tattoos began coursing their way down her arms and it’s also the day that she found out her crush has been keeping the mother of all secrets from her. Shirvington’s new and very interesting take on the angel genre will be one you won’t want to miss. This is a fast paced series with each book in the trilogy being released 6 months after the first so you won’t have to wait very long to find out what’s next! (Entice is due September 2012)
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin is a creepy book about a girl who can’t quite remember what happened to her. She has vivid hallucinations and is haunted by distant memories that are trying to push their way out. She meets Noah and has hopes that she can have happiness and love, but soon finds out that neither of those are in the cards for her. The sequel promises to answer some of the questions readers had in the first and I for one can’t wait to see what/who Mara really is…. (October 23rd- The Evolution of Mara Dyer)
And last but certainly not least is the Finale of the Hush Hush series by Becca Fitzpatrick. Who doesn’t need a little Patch in their life???? Haven’t read the Hush Hush series- oh you must. The first book introduces us to good girl Nora who is loveable and believable. In walks Patch, the dark and mysterious boy who can’t seem to leave Nora alone. But Patch is not really a boy per se…(these boys are never quite what they seem are they?!) He’s a fallen angel who’s in need of some redemption, (aren’t they all?!) But I really fell for Patch in Hush Hush. The second book, Crescendo, was not my favorite in all honestly. It felt like a re-telling of the first book with less interesting plot point. The third book, Silence, blew me away. I was SHOCKED! The plot was quick paced and I loved all the twists and turns. It left me yearning for Finale. (Finale is due October 23rd)
So readers- What are you most excited for?? Are you like me- do you re-read the books in a series before the next comes out? Let me know- tell me your thoughts/opinions!!! Until next time….
