The Haunting of Derek Stone by Tony Abbot
Here are a few things to know before picking up this book.
1. It’s scary!
2. It’s written for 9 years olds.
3. And it’s scary!
4. It’s a series with cliff hangers!
5. And it’s very scary!
I’m not kidding you! I read the first in the series at midnight (big mistake!) and I was scared the whole way through. In case you don’t know, I’m older than 9, so I should be able to read this book. And it scared me! It deals with the dead and the undead and the living the coming war between the evil dead and the good dead. But it really is a lot of fun. We’re not talking zombies, much worse! They don’t want to eat you, oh no! They want to destroy you! Set in New Orleans, a chubby kid is involved in a train wreck that kills his father and his brother. But something’s just not right after. He hears things, voices. He’s on edge. His uncle comes to comfort and support him, but trouble is just around the corner.
So, I just finished the second one (which isn’t quite released yet) and I’m hooked! I can’t wait for the next. Happily they are due to be released all this year. Well, they BETTER BE, or else! (I’m warning you Scholastic! Don’t toy with me!)
I’m sorry the link doesn’t give you any info but it’s the best I can do.
Be forewarned, don’t give this to kids who are easily scared. But it’s perfect for the child who loves to be scared. Like me! (hehehe) Ask me for details if you like.
